Unlike other anemones that like to station themselves on the reefs and on the ocean floor, this one likes to wander and explore the ocean. They come in different colours and can look like a ball of baked beans. At night these wandering sea anemones unfurl their stinging tentacles to catch their food. We have seen both red and orange wandering anemones at Mona Vale basin. Unfortunately, they do wash up on our beaches sometimes during times of big swell. I have enjoyed learning about these fascinating beauties and was drawn in by their patterns and designs when having a closer look. This is another wonder of the sea.
