Wobbegong Sharks are known as Carpet sharks as they dwell on the ocean floor and feed on smaller fish. They are recognized by their beautiful and distinct pattern on their skin and whisker-like bits around their mouths. Their name “Wobbegong” comes from the Australian Aboriginal language meaning “Shaggy beard”. We have a couple of resident Wobbegongs at Mona Vale beach Australia and see them frequently when swimming across the basin. We have seen them many times at Shelly Beach in Manly and on dives too. They are often camouflaged and can often be mistaken for a rock.
